Game Recap

STATE BOUND!!!

For the first time in Monticello Girl’s Lacrosse history, the Mustangs are heading to the state tournament due to their 11-8 victory over the Jefferson Forest Cavaliers on Tuesday night. The win moves the Mustangs onto the Regional Finals on Friday night at Salem, with both the Mustangs and Spartans moving on to the state tournament.

The Mustangs and the Cavaliers played back and forth action early on in the contest before the Mustangs started to pull away, going up by as many as 6 goals in the first half. The Cavaliers refused to quit, scoring 2 goals to close the gap to 4 at halftime.

The Cavaliers continued their comeback in the second half, cutting the lead to 2. But the Mustangs refused to let them get any closer, shutting them down on defense, great play in the goal by goalie Carly Harris, who ended with 9 saves, and controlling the ball and the tempo on attack.

The Mustangs were led in scoring by Josie Mallory with 4 goals, and Paige McGlothlin with 3 goals and 2 assists.

The Mustangs now travel to Salem to take on the Spartans for the Regional Championship on Friday night, with the winner hosting the first round of the state tournament. Road trip time on Friday night!! Come cheer the Mustangs onto victory!!
